Emerging Technology 3
For the final emerging technology post I decided to try out something that I have seen a lot of my friends use but have never used. This emerging technology post will cover Photobcuket. Photobucket is an image hosting, video hosting, slideshow creation and photo sharing website.You can edit them using Adobe Remix, and create profiles and portfolios to share. The site is free and you can store thousands of pictures and hours of video. You can also search for other peoples photos and link images to a blog. You can use Photobucket for auctions at eBay or for items you are selling on Craigslist. After you have uploaded the media you can use it almost anywhere.
The first thing I had to do was join. All this took was creating a username and password. After that it asked for name, email, gender, and a couple other quick questions.
After that I takes you to the main area and it is easy to use. You can choose to upload pictures from your computer, web URL, mobile phone, or ASK toolbar. There is also an option to upload multiple files at once which would be good to use if you wanted to create bigger albums. After you upload the picture you can share it, add a theme, make a slide show, or organize the album. There is a button to post it on Blogger which puts it directly on the blog. This is what I did.
I uploaded another picture and edited it. You can choose from lots of fun things to do such as a cartoon feature, painting, blueprint, blur, sepia, and a few more. I chose to do the old photo effect.
I uploaded another photo and this time I chose to do a different effect. I did the pop art effect.
The last effect I did was to add some letters onto a picture and then distort the background. All of the options for editing are above the picture and easy to use, all you have to do is click through them until you find what you want. You can also play around with it before it applies it to the picture in case you don't like what you did.
I found this site easy and fun to use. I could of spent hours playing around with all the effects and things you can do with your photos. My advice would be play around with everything on the site, there is a ton to do with the pictures and the site is very easy to navigate.

Emerging Technology 2
For the secong emerging technology post I explored Garage Band 3. I used the Garage Band feature for the first time last week, after just getting my Mac. Although I know not everyone has this feature on their computer but there are alot of helpful ways to create music whether its just for fun or professional. Since I don't create music on a regular basis it was fun to see how this worked. I decided to take a closer look at see what I could create!
There are several features to learn and create music. The first is the learn to play feature which allows you to learn the chords and and finger placement at your own pace. There are nine interactive videos to make the process of learning guitar or piano easier. Below is a youtube video of this feature.

Once you have the basics down you can learn songs from famous artists. Although you have to purchase most of the songs, there are some previews to look at. This is also taught step by step in a video. Below is a quick link to take a look at of how it works.

You can also turn your computer (Mac) into an instrument. I plugged my USB into the keyboard and there are different intruments you can use. It shows the rest and gives a detailed compisition of the music.
You can take it even farther and record and mix music. You can sing, record and have choices between what you think sounds good.

Podcasting
For this post I explored Podcasting. I have used podcasting in other classes to listen to lectures but I have never created one myself. I found the actual task of creating the podcast to be simple, but then I had problems getting the podcast onto the blog. (Which is why it is not on here!) I used Apple's Garage Band feature to do this. The video should be helpful to someone using a Mac.
Podcasting is a series of digital computer files that is available for download. It is useful in many cases. One of these cases could be listening to a missed lecture online or even a radio show that is broadcast online. It is also nice to be able to put it onto your Ipod and listen to it on the go.
I suggest watching tutorials on how to create a podcast and talking to someone who has experience using this technology. I think this is something that could be very useful and exciting to use once I am more confident with the process!
